Under Their Nose

Just as soon as the man snapped his fingers, he suddenly found himself standing in a room surrounded by large windows. He looks around with his eyes widened and speaks to himself, "I'm not even wearing my gas mask or anything... people are gonna freak the fuck out."

Around him is a seemingly simple bedroom resting on old wooden boards. A messy bed sits in the corner by a desk. The desk surface is cluttered with papers and books. Above it is a large bulletin board equally as filled and all lit up by the sunlight pouring in.

Curiously the man lowers his hand and walks over to the desk. He finds text books on local plants, trees, flowers, and wildlife. But then a few of the papers are newspaper articles and printed copies of sightings in the area. Most depict a vague blur of supposed cryptids and creatures. But all of them have red pen writing over them.

He tries to make out what the red pen is saying as he mutters, "Are you fucking kidding me..."

Most of the writing is disproving the articles, pointing out the features to be that of different animals. Some showing large beings to actually be bears on their hind legs or deer with their lower halves obscured by foliage. Now looking at the images they are very clearly forged or low quality pictures of different ordinary wildlife. Most are fabricated for shock value.

"Problem with the media... I can fix that," he sighs as he starts looking for a way out of the room.

Just by the desk is a simple wooden door but lined with locks and deadbolts along its side. He raises an eyebrow at the door before he starts unlocking it. After undoing seven various locks the door creaks open to what seems like a wooden balcony with a thin railing. Cole steps out onto the balcony as he feels the wind picking up.

Quickly he notices that he's easily a hundred feet into the air in some form of lookout tower. There's a sea of orange trees spanning out for miles into a distant mountain range. Several patches of emerald green pine trees dot the landscape as he sees a large area cleared out seemingly with a town nestled inside.

He notes the area and squints at the town ahead, "Well uh... I'd break my bones if I decide to jump down so I've only really got one option here." Just then from under his jacket unfurls a pair of large wings made of bone that stretch out ten feet either side. He steps up onto the railing before he glides to an area just outside the town.
